Visit of Mr. T. V. Narendran to IIT Kharagpur ~
IIT Kharagpur was honoured to welcome T. V. Narendran, Chairman of the Board of Governors, IIT Kharagpur, and Global CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel, during his visit to the Institute. Accompanied by Suman Chakraborty, the director of IIT Kharagpur, Mr. Narendran visited the laboratories of the School of Medical Science and Technology (SMST), the Bioscience and Biotechnology Department, and the Common Research and Technology Development Hub (CRTDH). The visit included interactions with Deans and senior faculty members, highlighting the Institute’s interdisciplinary research ecosystem and innovation capabilities.
IIT Kharagpur Hosts RAdMed-2025: Advancing Medical Science & Technology ~
IIT Kharagpur successfully hosted the International Conference on Recent Advances in Medical Science and Technology (RAdMed-2025), marking a key highlight of the Institute’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations and 25 years of the School of Medical Science and Technology (SMST). RAdMed-2025 brought together leading researchers, clinicians, and industry experts from India and abroad, featuring over 50 keynote, plenary, and invited talks, along with oral, flash, and poster presentations across Biomedical Imaging & Informatics, Medical Devices, Immunology & Molecular Medicine, and Biomaterials & Tissue Engineering.
IIT Kharagpur Inaugurates MANAS Lab for AI-Driven Surgical Robotics ~
IIT Kharagpur has inaugurated MANAS (Multi-modal AI in Navigation and Automation for Surgical Robotics), a new laboratory established in partnership with the Intuitive Foundation, supported by Intuitive Surgical. Inaugurated by Dr. Catherine Mohr, the initiative aims to advance AI-enabled decision support, safety guidance, and responsible automation in robotic-assisted surgery. Led at IIT Kharagpur by Prof. Debdoot Sheet and Prof. Subhamoy Mondal, MANAS will leverage the da Vinci Research Kit (dVRK) for non-clinical research using phantoms and anatomical models, reinforcing the institute’s commitment to impactful research at the intersection of AI, robotics, and healthcare.
DAAD–SPARC GIANT Project AHEAD Kick-off Meeting ~
The DAAD–SPARC GIANT Project AHEAD kick-off meeting was successfully held at the IIT Kharagpur from 8–12 December 2025, marking the formal launch of the Indo-German collaboration with the Technical University of Munich. The visit of Dr. Ulrich Eck featured a series of academic and strategic engagements, including interaction sessions with the School of Medical Science and Technology (SMST), curriculum development discussions, and laboratory visits across the campus. Key highlights included a panel discussion on “Towards Supporting Medical Experts with Intelligent Augmentations”, and deliberations on future collaboration between IIT Kharagpur and TUM. The program also included meetings with TCS Research at the IIT Kharagpur Research Park, visits to leading clinical institutions, reinforcing both academic collaboration and cross-cultural exchange.
Visit of Shri Vivek Wadhwa to IIT Kharagpur AI4ICPS I-Hub Foundation ~
We had the privilege of hosting Shri Vivek Wadhwa, renowned academic, entrepreneur, and author, at the AI4ICPS I-Hub Foundation, IIT Kharagpur. During his visit, Shri Wadhwa attended a technology demonstration session featuring AI-powered translational projects in Healthcare, Electric Vehicles, and Manufacturing, funded and managed by AI4ICPS. His insightful feedback and words of encouragement inspired faculty, students, and innovators to push the frontiers of innovation.
AHEAD (Augmented Intelligence in Healthcare for Enhanced Access and Delivery) ~
A new Indo-German collaborative project titled AHEAD (Augmented Intelligence in Healthcare for Enhanced Access and Delivery) has been launched between the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) under the DAAD SPARC–GIANT program. The initiative aims to advance AI and AR applications in healthcare, fostering innovation and knowledge exchange through joint research and academic collaboration.
Participation in DPG Medical Physics School, Germany ~
As part of international academic engagement, participation in the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG) Medical Physics School at Stadt Bad Honnef, Germany, offered an enriching experience in exploring the physics underlying medical imaging and radiotherapy. The program, guided by eminent experts including Prof. Franz Pfeiffer, Prof. Katia Parodi, Prof. Thomas Bortfeld, and Prof. Brian Pogue, provided an inspiring platform to connect with leading researchers and emerging talents in medical physics.
DAAD Early Career Research Symposium (ECR) 2025: GESUND at IIT Kharagpur ~
The DAAD Early Career Research Symposium (ECR) 2025: GESUND was successfully held at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur on 12–13 September 2025, focusing on equitable and accessible healthcare. The event brought together eminent researchers and entrepreneurs from India and Germany, including Prof. Michael Friebe, Dr. Sailesh Conjeti, Dr. Shirish Joshi, DAAD Ambassadors Dr. Nagarajan Ganapathy and Dr. Anant Kapdi. Hands-on sessions on Publishing and Grant Formulation were conducted by Erwin Fuhrer and Prof. Debdoot Sheet.

The IEEE IIT Kharagpur Student Branch, in collaboration with the IEEE EMBS Student Branch Chapter, successfully organized UpSkill EnMed 2025. The event brought together experts and students to explore the intersection of Robotic Surgery, AI in Healthcare, and GPU-Accelerated Computation. Featuring insightful sessions, and dynamic networking opportunities for participants, the program fostered meaningful industry-academia engagement and inspired future innovation in medical technologies.

The IEEE IIT Kharagpur Student Branch, in collaboration with the IEEE EMBS Student Branch Chapter, successfully organized the Medical Camp at the Hijli Cooperative Colony Primary School, Kharagpur. The initiative brought together healthcare professionals, researchers, and students to promote community health awareness and showcase innovations in preventive healthcare, medical technology, and AI-assisted diagnostics.

~ Visit by Dr. Kamlesh Yadav, Texas A&M University (United States) ~
We were honored to host Dr. Kamlesh Yadav, Instructional Associate Professor at the Texas A&M School of Engineering Medicine under the Shri Gopal Rajgarhia International Programme. He spent ten days engaging with students and faculty through an enriching lecture series for the Master’s in Medical Science and Technology (MMST) program.
As part of the Scientific High Level Visiting Fellowships (SSHN) 2022, a visit to Laboratoire d’Imagerie Biomédicale, Sorbonne Université, provided an opportunity to engage with Dr. Jérôme Gateau and the IT2D team. The discussions focused on advancements in imaging and targeted therapy for cancer and inflammation, fostering international collaboration and knowledge exchange in biomedical research.
It was a fantastic experience interacting with aspiring students and faculty from IIT Hyderabad, IISER Tirupati, IIT Tirupati, and associated institutions during the DAAD India nRESiDE workshop. We look forward to strengthening Indo-German academic collaborations, fostering global leaders, and driving innovation.
A proud moment for the MITLab team! Pooja Jain, Anusuiya, and Partha Acharya secured the 1st Runners-up award at the PRAGATII Hackathon, organized by iHub Drishti Foundation, IIT Jodhpur. Under the mentorship of Dr. Subhamoy Mandal and Prof. Koel Chaudhury, the team developed an ‘Augmented Reality Enabled SAFE Laparoscopy System.’ Special thanks to Dr. Barnali Ghosh for her guidance and to all contributors for their valuable support in this achievement.
